after care for your new tattoo
first day/night
Keep the bandage on for at least 6 hours, ideally overnight, if it feels comfortable and secure. If you remove it early, be aware your tattoo may still bleed.
Your tattoo may still bleed and the blood could dry, sticking to clothes or bedding. If this happens, gently remove the fabric—don’t force it. If it doesn't come off, wet the area with lukewarm water and carefully slide it off.
Fresh tattoos may "weep" plasma and ink, forming a thin coating. Gently dab it with a clean paper towel by pressing it to the skin and removing it.
Don’t worry if you see tattoo colors on the paper towel or your hands. This is just excess ink being released from the skin.
To avoid stains, use towels and bedsheets with darker tones and wear dark clothing.
taking off bandage and cleaning your tattoo
Wash your hands first and use unscented antibacterial soap. Avoid soaps with fragrance, moisture beads, or scrubs.
Remove the bandage and gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap, using a circular motion to remove all ointment and plasma.
Pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel then allow to fully air dry for a minimum of 10 minutes. DO NOT SCRUB.
Once dry, apply a thin layer of Aquaphor. Gently rub it in—less is more. Too much can suffocate the tattoo, so only use a light coat to let it breathe.
Apply Aquaphor 2-3 times a day for 2 days, or until the tattoo begins to peel. After peeling starts, switch to fragrance-free lotion (like Lubriderm) for the next 2 weeks.
Your tattoo should be completely healed within 2-4 weeks.
for second-skin bandages
Keep the second-skin bandage on for 3-4 days. It's normal for some fluid to build up underneath.
Avoid water exposure as it can weaken the adhesive and increase infection risk. Keep water temperature cool—too much heat can irritate the tattoo.
Light exercise is fine, but avoid heavy sweating. Keep the bandage clean and dry.
When removing the bandage, do so gently in the shower, peeling it off like a sticker.
After removal, wash gently with antibacterial soap and moisturize with plain, unscented lotion a few times a day.
important do’s and don’ts
Use clean towels, bedding, and clothes during the healing process.
Wear loose, cotton clothing and avoid tight accessories over the tattoo. Keep clothing clean and dry.
Only use recommended products on your tattoo.
Don’t submerge the tattoo in water for 2 weeks (no baths, pools, or oceans)—regular showers only.
Avoid contact with animal hair/fur and don’t let anyone touch your tattoo.
Don’t use sponges, washcloths, or anything abrasive when cleaning the tattoo.
Don’t pick scabs or scratch the tattoo, even if it gets itchy.
